Paul Farmer: Global Humanitarian Speaks to the Next Generation
Join the Honors College–New Brunswick, in partnership with Rutgers' Centers for Global Advancement and International Affairs, as medical anthropologist and physician Paul Farmer: Global Humanitarian Speaks to the Next Generation. Rutgers through the Centuries opens on November 12, 2015, with a program at 5:30 p.m. in the Scholarly Communication Center on the 4th Floor of Alexander Library in New Brunswick. The event will begin with a viewing of the Rutgers 250 film Our Revolutionary Spirit. Welcoming remarks are by the chancellor of Rutgers University–New Brunswick Richard L. Edwards and the vice president for information services and university librarian Krisellen Maloney. Our keynote will be given by president emeritus and university professor Richard L. McCormick, presenting “A Singular Pathway to Excellence: Rutgers at 250.” The program will be followed by a reception in the Scarlet Latte on the B-level of Alexander Library.
The exhibition will run through November 30, 2016, and features important historical documents; vivid photographic illustrations; and interesting, compelling, and often whimsical artifacts from the collections of the Rutgers University Archives. | Location: Gallery '50 and the Special Collections and University Archives Gallery, Archibald S. "Welcome to the Anthropocene: A Geological Age of Our Making," part of the SEBS Dean's 250th Anniversary Distinguished Lecture Series
Join the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) and New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) for the first event in a series of events honoring Rutgers' 250th Anniversary, focused on the school's anniversary theme, "Exploring the Anthropocene: The Age of Us."
Join us on November 12, 2015, for the inaugural SEBS event in the Dean's 250th Anniversary Distinguished Lecture Series. We will welcome Pace University Senior Fellow for Environmental Understanding and reporter for the New York Times Andrew Revkin, who will discuss "Welcome to the Anthropocene: A Geological Age of Our Making." Universitywide International Education Week
As a former Dutch seminary school with founding roots in Utrecht, Netherlands, it’s not difficult to see that nearly every branch of Rutgers 250-year history has an international influence. November 16–20, 2015, Rutgers celebrates the extensive global portfolio we’ve grown since 1766 through International Education Week (IEW), a joint initiative of U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. Join in on the fun by participating in a series of interactive, and educational global activities at all three Rutgers locations coordinated by Centers for Global Advancement and International Affairs. | Location: Activities will take place at all three of Rutgers' locations.

Join the Center for Urban Research and Education (CURE) for a symposium addressing the negative effects of inadequate housing policies on segregation, concentration of poverty, and the affordable housing crisis. A panel of esteemed speakers will discuss topics such as the geography of inequality and its effects, exclusionary and inclusionary zoning, the fair-housing movement, and affordable housing and the concentration of poverty.
Keynote speaker Mark Stephens, the professor of public policy at Herlot-Watt University of Edinburgh, Scotland, will provide a comparative perspective, outlining policies and trends in the provision of “social housing” in Western European countries and reflecting on the difference in urban form between these nations and the United States. | Location: Dr. Gloria Bonilla-Santiago LEAP STEAM Building (formerly The Wilson Building), 130 North Broadway, Camden, NJ.
Rutgers 250 Launch in Camden and the Dedication of the Writers House
Join us on November 17 for 250 Kickoff events in Camden and the dedication of the Writers House located at 305 Cooper Street, home to the MFA Program, English department, students, and guest writers. Historically known as the Henry Genet Taylor House, the structure, originally built in 1885, was designed by renowned Philadelphia architect Wilson Eyre Jr. in the style of American Queen Anne Revival. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places. The first floor serves as programming space for the Writers in Camden Series and student readings, community workshops, commencement celebrations, and other special events; while the second floor serves as faculty and administrative offices, including the offices of StoryQuarterly, the literary journal published by Rutgers University–Camden. | Location: 305 Cooper Street, Camden, N.J.

Join us for Rutgers 250 launch activities in Newark and the dedication of the recently renovated 15 Washington Street, an icon on the Newark skyline and the former home of Rutgers School of Law–Newark. More than 300 graduate and undergraduate students now enjoy these apartment-style studios, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units. There will be common areas for student and academic use, and spaces that support events and arts performances and exhibitions produced by Rutgers faculty, staff, and students in collaboration with Newark performers, artists, and creators of all ages. The building will also serve as a residence for the chancellor of Rutgers University–Newark. | Location: 15 Washington Street, Newark, N.J.
