Watch Tuesday's Gubernatorial Debate
October 9, 2017
Members of the Rutgers Community:
Next month, New Jersey voters will select a new Governor. Rutgers is playing a special role in the election process by cosponsoring tomorrow evening’s gubernatorial debate at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. One of our students, Chinedu Onyemaobi of the Newark College of Arts and Sciences, will be among the panel of journalists at the debate.
I want to take this opportunity to encourage everyone at Rutgers to engage in the process. Become informed about the candidates and the issues and, if you are eligible and registered to vote in New Jersey, make sure to do so.
To provide context for this year’s election, Rutgers Today has asked some of our faculty experts to discuss key public policy issues facing the state. We have also arranged watch parties to which all are invited. You can read all of the stories, and learn about the Campus Watch Parties in New Brunswick, Camden, and Newark, on our debate webpage.
Engaging in the election process is critically important to the strength of our representative democracy. Of course, it is not the only way to participate in civic life, and I applaud all those at Rutgers who are working to improve the state and our world in one way or another. Special thanks to our students who volunteer their time in their hometowns and in our host communities.
Tomorrow’s debate begins at 7:00 p.m. It will be broadcast on 7ABC in New York and 6ABC in Philadelphia and streamed on Twitter. I encourage you to watch—and vote.
Sincerely,
Bob Barchi
