Margaret Marsh Will Serve as Camden's Interim Chancellor

March 2, 2020

Members of the Rutgers Community:

I am pleased to announce that Margaret Marsh will serve as Interim Chancellor of Rutgers University–Camden, beginning July 1. Dr. Marsh, a University Professor of History, comes to the position with extensive and laudatory experience in leadership at Rutgers–Camden: she previously served with distinction as interim chancellor between 2007 and 2009, and enjoyed a highly successful tenure as dean of the Rutgers–Camden Faculty of Arts and Sciences that began in 1998 and ended in 2011.

Among her achievements as dean, Dr. Marsh launched the nation’s first Ph.D. program in childhood studies, established the Honors College at Rutgers–Camden, boosted the school’s endowment fund more than eightfold, and initiated Rutgers–Camden’s Ph.D. programs in computational and integrative biology and public affairs. These milestones were vital to Rutgers–Camden’s evolution from a master’s-level to a doctoral university.

In her first stint as interim chancellor, Dr. Marsh helped boost enrollment to a new high, advanced the establishment of an MFA in creative writing, and oversaw the transformation of the School of Business–Camden into a four-year school. She also presided over critical renovations of the dining hall and recreation center, the acquisition of properties on Lawrence and Cooper Streets now in use by academic programs, and the introduction of new undergraduate offerings at Atlantic Cape Community College.

Dr. Marsh is an outstanding scholar. She is recognized internationally as a leading expert in the history of infertility, reproductive medicine, and reproductive technology, and has written three books on these subjects in collaboration with her sister, Dr. Wanda Ronner, professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Marsh currently divides her time between the Rutgers Institute for Health in New Brunswick and Rutgers–Camden, where she teaches in the Honors College and the Graduate School.

It is reassuring to know that as Chancellor Phoebe Haddon steps down, we have another exceptional leader to serve Rutgers University–Camden in this role. Please join me in thanking Margaret Marsh as she prepares to step into this position once again.

Sincerely,

Robert Barchi
