Alumna Katie Dippold at the American Comedy Awards

Katie Dippold, a rising star among television and movie screenwriters, appears at the American Comedy Awards in New York City in April.

Ghostbusters, the ’80s classic that starred Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis as parapsychologists, will live to see another day—this time with an all-female cast, which might include top names Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig. The third installation of the movie, which has been delayed for years, is set to go into production this spring. It will be directed by filmmaker Paul Feig (Bridesmaids and The Heat) who will share the comedic writing duties with Katie Dippold RC’02, SCILS’02, who wrote the screenplay for The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Dippold, whom Variety deemed one of “10 Screenwriters to Watch” in 2012, honed her comedic voice writing and coproducing NBC’s Parks and Recreation, which stars Amy Poehler and will conclude in April.

“I love Katie,” said Feig, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Our sensibilities and our comedic tastes completely dovetail with each other. So when this one came up, there was no other name I thought of … What both Katie and I really want to do with this one is make it crazy funny, but also you’re scared at the same time.”
