The first home of Rutgers University–Newark was purchased in 1927, known as the Malt House No. 3 at 40 Rector Street, formerly the Ballantine Brewery. The floors of the building sloped ever so slightly to allow for beer drainage, and the faint smell of hops lingered. Shown here are students outside of the building.
