In 1969, a group of African-American students, most from the Black Organization of Students, took over Conklin Hall in order to demand more black representation among the student body and faculty. For 72 hours, students sequestered themselves in the building, during which time they symbolically unfurled a banner symbolically renaming the building "Liberation Hall."
