Dianne Lennon

Dianne Lennon, professor and member of Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Atlantic County, passed away on September 4, 2016. She was 73.

Services were held on September 10 at the Jethro Memorial Presbyterian Church, Atlantic City.

Lennon attended North Carolina Central University, earning a bachelor of science degree, and later attended Rowan University for a master of art's degree in education administration. In 1970 she joined the Rutgers Cooperative Extension, where she was a family and community health sciences educator and advanced to the rank of full professor.

She served as president of the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (19951996), New Jersey Extension Family and Consumer Sciences (19921994), and New Jersey Home Economics Association (19781979) and provided leadership for other professional organizations.

In 1987 she was selected as New Jersey Home Economist of the Year, the highest honor from the New Jersey Home Economics Association. In 2008, she was inducted into the Atlantic County Hall of Fame in the field of education. She received the Freedom Fund Award in 2004 from the NAACP and served on many public service boards and committees.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Traci Lennon of Hawaii; and two stepsons, Lawrence Lennon and Thayer John Lennon.
