Douglas J. Thompson

Douglas J. Thompson, 81, former chief of the Rutgers University Police Department at Rutgers University–Camden, passed away on April 13, 2015.

A funeral Mass was offered on April 24 at Corpus Christi Church in Willingboro, New Jersey.

Thompson served in a variety of roles during his tenure at Rutgers, which started in 1974 when he joined the Rutgers University–New Brunswick police department. From1979 to 1981, he served as a sergeant at Rutgers University–Camden, and then returned to Rutgers University–New Brunswick, where he served as captain.

In 1990, Thompson returned to Rutgers University–Camden as police department captain. He was promoted to chief in 1995 and remained in that role until his retirement in 1998.

Prior to joining Rutgers, Thompson served in the U.S. Army for 23 years, including three years in Korea and nine years in Germany. He completed his military service career with the rank of first sergeant.

He is survived by two sons, B. Roland Tuff of Aulander, N.C., and Daryl J. Thompson (Karen) of Delanco, N.J.; two granddaughters, Jasmine Tuff of Aulander and Olivia Thompson of Delanco, and a host of other relatives and friends.
