In Memoriam

Marc Pych

Rutgers–Newark mourns the death of recent student Marc Pych, 22, of Jersey City, New Jersey. Pych had completed his course requirements for his business degree at Rutgers in December, and was scheduled to graduate this month.

He was killed early New Year’s Day when his car plunged into the Morris Canal in Jersey City.

Pych studied finance and supply chain management at Rutgers Business School (RBS).

A graduate of Liberty High School in Jersey City, he attended Rutgers from 2009 to 2013, and was actively involved on campus, in and out of the classroom. Tom York, instructor in Supply Chain Management at RBS, noted that Pych was motivated to complete his degree in order to provide a better life for his family. “He was very excited to start a new phase of his life upon graduation and was looking forward to launching his career in the business world,” York said.

Shigeo Iwayima, director of Housing and Residence Life at Rutgers, noted that Pych was a leader in the Housing and Residence Life family. “He gave three years of service as a residence assistant and touched several hundred students during his time as an RA,” Iwayima said.

At Rutgers, Pych was a member of the Supply Chain Management Association, of the Lambda Sigma Upsilon Fraternity, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Community Service Committee of Housing and Residence Life. He participated in the Johnson & Johnson Case Competition at RBS, and had co-op work experience at Johnson & Johnson Sales and Logistics Company and at Johnson & Johnson ITS. He was also a member of the International Thespian Society, a volunteer at Jersey City Polish School and an altar server at St. Ann’s R.C. Church.
