Arthur W. Edwards

Arthur W. Edwards (81) died on November 30, 2013. He was a professor emeritus in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Rutgers–New Brunswick.

Born in Beverly, Massachusetts, on August 1, 1932, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Mildred Perkins Edwards.

Edwards' first love was his family followed closely by his love of teaching. He started teaching at Jr. High School, Malden, Massachusetts, then taught high school in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts. He then trained science teachers for 25 years at Cook College.

He received his B.A. and M.A. from Salem College; another M.A. from Temple University, and his Ph.D. in Environmental Science Education from the University of Massachusetts.

He was a member of the Mayflower Society and also a member of several academic societies including Alpha Tau Alpha and Phi Delta Kappa.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Barbara Kenny Edwards; a daughter, Meridith Novack and her husband, Stephen; two sons, Robert A. Edwards and his wife, Kathleen, and Carleton W. Edwards and his wife, Julie; and seven grandchildren, Kaitlin, Allison, Shannon, Christopher, Kimberly, Sarah and Nicholas.

A viewing will be held at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington, NJ, on Friday, December 6 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a short service.
