In Memoriam

Stacy L. Hagan, Active Staff, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, died on December 20, 2007. She was a Laboratory Researcher III in the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences and a 1999 graduate of the Graduate School-New Brunswick.

Stacy Lynn Hagan, 36, was a marine research scientist at the Rutgers University Marine Field Station (RUMFS) for the past 17 years. Stacy grew up in Blue Anchor, N.J., where she was an avid softball player. She received an academic scholarship to Stockton where she met her future husband Roland during freshman orientation. Stacy was an active member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. She graduated in 1992, she began at RUMFS with a degree in marine science. In 1993,she moved to Oregon to pursue Salmon research, returning to RUMFS for hergraduate degree while working full-time as a field technician. She has continued to publish her research on marsh ecosystem production with her mentor, Dr. Ken Able. Having taken up the practice of Tai Chi to reduce the stresses of graduate school, Stacy later became an instructor with a following of her fellow students. Stacy had a fervent attraction to the Falcon Ridge Folk
Festival in Hillsdale, N.Y., where she exposed her children to an
alternative lifestyle that passes no judgments and thrives on creative
giving of oneself through Music and Dance. Originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, Stacy created an informational diary of her ongoing trials at Stacy has been a member
of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Jersey Shore since
February of 2004. She is survived by her loving family: husband, Roland Hagan Jr.; son, Rutger Roland and daughter, Ryland Delaney of West Creek, N.J.; parents Edward and Doris Moore of Blue Anchor, N.J.; and sister, Sheryl, brother-in-law, Greg, and nephew, Trevin DelGozzo of Hammonton, N.J.

Honoring Stacy’s wishes, flowers are to stay in the ground. Donations can be made, enabling others to grow. Through an Annual Internship for Future Marine Scientist ~ to follow in her shoes at the Rutgers University Marine Field Station~ friends and family may make gifts to the Stockton College Foundation
